In this settlement, three defendants, Vitol Inc., SK Energy Americas, Inc., and SK Trading International Co. Ltd. (collectively, “Defendants”) were involved. The Attorney General brought this class action lawsuit in the law enforcement capacity for natural persons who reside in California. In this lawsuit it is alleged that Defendants manipulated gasoline price indices, causing inflated retail gas prices in California. It is also alleged that they violate California’s antitrust laws such as the Cartwright Act and Unfair Competition Law.
Defendants have not admitted any wrongdoing or have not denied all the allegations but they agreed to pay a maximum of $50 million into two settlement funds to resolve the settlement allegations.
